Reuse Resources
TwinCitiesFreeMarket.org is no longer active. Thank you for your interest in reuse.
Reuse is fundamental for a zero waste future. Shopping for used goods or giving away your unwanted reusable items not only keeps these items out of landfills and incinerators (where toxic materials are burned or leached into our air and water), but also utilizes their maximum life cycle, which reduces the need to manufacture new products. Reuse saves energy, prevents pollution, conserves natural resources, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
The History of the Twin Cities Free Market
The Twin Cities Free Market was an innovative reuse program created by Eureka Recycling to help divert usable and repairable items from the waste stream. The Twin Cities Free Market began in 1998 and was the first web based residential exchange program that specifically targeted the exchange of reusable and durable household goods. Over the years TCFM facilitated more than 120,000 exchanges and saved over 13.1 million pounds of reusable goods from entering landfills and incinerators. Since the inception of TCFM, over 20 years ago, many other reuse organizations, platforms, and retailers have come into the resuse and repair marketplace. Check out the resources located on this page for more info on how to dispose of or purchase reusable items.
